Domestic Violence

Cincinnati Domestic Violence Lawyer

Domestic violence is a difficult issue for all parties involved. Those who have been victimized by an abuser in their home must face the realization that the one place that should represent a haven of peace and safety has now become a source of fear. Likewise, those charged with violent behavior in the home often become victims of a partner’s rashness or vindictiveness, or act without knowing his or her behavior constitutes domestic violence.

The law firm of King, Koligian & Associates, LLC, serves clients in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area, providing legal services to both victims and alleged abusers. Driven by a commitment to ensuring individual rights, we work to help resolve matters effectively. Contact us today.

Serving Victims of Domestic Violence:

  • If you or your children have been the victims of domestic violence, obtaining a refuge safe from further abuse is critical. We encourage those who have been subjected to violence in the home to call 911 immediately to report the incident and to be put in contact with organizations that can provide you with a safe place to go and also provide services to help you cope.
  • The second call you should make is to attorneys trained to handle domestic violence cases. While the police may issue a temporary protective order (TPO), it may be terminated between 30 and 90 days, so you need to make sure you are aware of these dates and, with an attorney’s help, file for additional protection.
  • At King, Koligian & Associates, LLC, we can help you obtain a civil protection order (CPO). More encompassing than a TPO, a CPO can result in the following:
  • An order for an abuser to stay away from the victim(s)
  • An order for an abuser to break even all non-physical contact (phone, fax, e-mail, third party) with the victim(s)
  • Exclusive rights to the home for the victim(s)
  • Temporary custody of children or visitation arrangements
  • Child and/or spousal support payable to the victim
  • Distribution of household items
  • Removal of the abuser’s weapons including legal, registered firearms

Representing Those Charged with Violence in the Home:

  • If you have been charged with domestic violence, it is imperative that you obtain legal counsel immediately. A trained lawyer can help you navigate through the confusing terrain of the justice system.
  • Many charged with domestic violence are unaware of what constitutes this type of crime.
  • If a CPO or TPO has been issued, it is important to understand and abide by the guidelines, as violation of protection orders is also a criminal offense.
  • Some allegations of domestic violence are the result of a rash decision made in the heat of the moment. We have helped clients who have been inaccurately charged with domestic violence to be able to keep contact with their spouses and children and remain in their homes.
